Business support for deep tech and science companies
You have the science and the engineers. We help with everything around them: the commercial case, the funding story, and the systems that let a technical team run like a company.
Who this is for
For technical founders, research leads and engineering directors whose product is genuinely new. Your people are brilliant at the hard problem. Nobody has found the time to write the pricing, chase the first pilot customer, tidy the data or explain the whole business properly to a funder.
Explore Deep tech, science and engineering
- Deep techLong development cycles, technical teams and funding that depends on milestones. Turning a real breakthrough into a business with customers.
- Life sciences and health techRegulation, clinical and lab timelines, protected IP and money that arrives in stages. Commercial help that respects the pace.
- Clean tech and net zeroExcellent science, a slow route to market, and impact you must evidence to funders and customers alike.
- Advanced manufacturing and engineeringKnow how that lives in people and spreadsheets, quoting by instinct, and growth that strains both the shop floor and the office.
- Agri tech and foodSeasonal rhythms, thin margins, heavy paperwork, long supply chains and funding that is easy to miss.
Where innovation led businesses tend to get stuck
Excellent technology, vague customer
The prototype works, but nobody can say precisely who pays for it, how much, and why now. Customer conversations keep getting postponed in favour of one more experiment.
Funding story that does not land
Applications describe the science well and the market thinly. Reviewers and investors want evidence of demand, a believable route to revenue and a team able to deliver.
Know how held in a few heads
Methods, test results and decisions live in notebooks, shared folders and one senior engineer's memory. Losing a person, or onboarding one, becomes a real risk.
No one owns the business side
Founders split their week between the lab, the bench or the codebase and everything else. Invoicing, contracts, reporting to funders and hiring all wait their turn.
How we work alongside a technical team
Scope &
Strategy
We talk to the people closest to the work, then map the route from working technology to paying customer, flagging what a funder, partner or buyer will ask. You get a short ordered plan, not a thesis.
About Scope & StrategySystems &
Solutions
We build the plain machinery a technical business lacks: a place for evidence and results, a tidy pipeline of partners, reporting that feeds funders, and handovers that mean one departure does not hurt.
About Systems & SolutionsSecurity &
Support
Intellectual property and research data need proper protection. We keep access sensible, backups tested and records tidy, so partners, funders and collaborators can be answered with real evidence.
About Security & SupportQuestions people ask
What help is available for deep tech startups in the UK?
There are grants and competitions through bodies such as Innovate UK, university enterprise teams, Catapult centres, and angel and venture investors. Which fits depends on your stage. We can help you work out what to approach first. Check current details with each funder directly.
Can a non technical adviser really help a science company?
Yes, on the parts that are not science: customers, pricing, story, people and systems. We do not pretend to judge your technology. We ask the questions a buyer or funder will ask, and help you answer them clearly and honestly.
How long does it take to commercialise deep technology?
Often longer than founders hope, and it varies enormously by field and by how much testing or approval sits ahead of you. What we can do is help you plan in stages, with cash runway and proof points that make each stage fundable.
How would we begin working with NYAS?
Book a call and describe where the company is and what is stalling. We will listen, ask the awkward commercial questions, and tell you honestly whether and how we could help. There is no pitch and no commitment on that first conversation.

You tell us what is going on. We tell you honestly whether we can help, and if we cannot, we will say so.
