Support for innovation and R&D leads in UK businesses

You are paid to make new things happen inside a business that wants results by next quarter. We help you build the case, line up funding and turn a promising project into something that ships.

Who this is for

You head up innovation, R&D or product development, perhaps as a team of one. You report to a board or an owner who likes the idea of innovation but wants proof. You are juggling experiments, suppliers, funders and the day job of explaining why this matters.

The squeeze on people who are meant to innovate

  • Projects that never get approved

Your ideas are sound, but the business case reads like a science report. Finance asks for a return you cannot yet show, and the project stalls in committee.

  • Funding is a second job

Grants, tax relief and partnerships could pay for the work, yet each has its own forms, scoring and deadlines. Nobody has time to learn them all.

  • Evidence scattered everywhere

Test results, supplier notes, time records and costs sit in different folders. When a funder or auditor asks, you rebuild the story from memory.

  • Prototype to product gap

The pilot worked. Nobody owns turning it into something sold, supported and priced, so it drifts back into the lab or onto a shelf.

What we do for an innovation lead

Scope &
Strategy

We look at the project portfolio with you, choose what deserves backing and write a commercial case that finance and the board can read. We also map which kinds of funding might fit each project.

About Scope & Strategy

Systems &
Solutions

We build the record keeping behind R&D work: project logs, time and cost capture and evidence folders, so reports, claims and funder questions can be answered from one tidy place.

Security &
Support

Research data and IP are sensitive. We keep access controlled, partner sharing deliberate and backups sound, and we check regularly that what you protect today still matches who is involved.

Questions people ask

How do I get an R&D project approved by my board?

Translate the science into a decision. State the problem, the market it touches, what you need, how long it takes and what you will know at each stage. Boards back clear stages with exit points more readily than one large leap of faith.

What records do I need to keep for R&D funding?

Funders and HMRC generally want to see what uncertainty you were resolving, who worked on it, what it cost and what happened. Keep dated notes, test results and time records as you go. Check current requirements on GOV.UK or with the funder before relying on any of this.

Can a small business do R&D without a big budget?

Yes, by staging the work, borrowing facilities through partners and using public funding where it fits. Small, well evidenced experiments beat one expensive bet. Funding is never certain, so plan the project so that it survives a no, and keep going.

How do I start working with NYAS as an innovation lead?

Book a call. We talk through what you are trying to prove, who needs convincing and where things stall. We will say plainly if we can help. You are under no obligation afterwards, and the conversation is useful on its own.
